Humans
Ah, yes—the self-proclaimed masters of the land, and undoubtedly the most egotistical presence to walk the earth. Humans are the most widespread and populous species, and they inhabit nearly all the non-hostile regions of the country. This species is the innovator, the enterpriser, the ones who develop and create. Humans are largely known as the most curious species, as they are constantly investigating that which they don’t understand, seemingly obsessed to know all that possibly can be known of the world (and perhaps even beyond).
However, due to their large population, these creatures are incredibly diverse. They’ve developed all sorts of beliefs, systems of government, and laws. One of the more philosophical species (coming in after the centaurs), many beliefs tend to clash with one another, unfortunately leading to much conflict and bloodshed. Humans are a power to be reckoned with in the arena of warfare, and they are well-known for employing creative and often very cruel methods to aid in their success.
Social creatures by nature, humans tend to form large communities in hospitable areas, building extensive relationships from family members to casual acquaintances. Yet, humans have proven to be very changeable, and one is never quite certain if they can be trusted.
The communities built by humans tend to have very rigid social structures and beliefs, even though said structures and beliefs vary from region to region. Not exactly a tolerant species, these creatures are quick to judge others and to enact regulations against behaviors they deem unacceptable or out of the norm. Due to this, they treat other species with a degree of contempt, even though they still regularly engage in trade with dwarves and occasionally elves. Dragons, magic-users, vampires and werewolves tend to receive the brunt of their ire, and half-breeds only come off the slightest bit better. Though most humans tend to ignore these extraneous species, there are groups of radicals who actively exterminate other species.
The investment in labor and technology is something totally unique to these creatures. Labor regulates the lives of humans very strictly, and much of the short lifespan of a human is spent at their place of employment. However, it is clear that the incredible amounts of work they do pay off in the form of various innovations and technology. Humans are the most technologically-advanced creatures, possessing arms and methods of communication that other species have only ever dreamed of.
This species is very heterogenous, spreading across all sorts of occupations and customs. They have mastered a variety of arts, and are usually glad to embrace more as long as the art doesn’t involve anything too foreign. Those that wish to dabble in the more taboo areas of human society, however, may rest assured that they will not be alone. Just as there are those who adhere rigidly to the status quo, there are others who find themselves much more interested in exploring that which is forbidden.
