No one really knows how to pronounce the name of this belief system, or in fact, what it even really means, so everyone just calls it Frja for short. (And the ‘j’ is pronounced like a ‘y’—get your facts straight, you ignorant scum.) Standing in opposition to the ultra speciest groups of the land, the Frjaians are believers in equality and rights for all. These are one of the few people from whom Lukkhrung can find acceptance, and Frjaian villages are one of the few places where they can be protected from the widespread persecution that runs amok outside the villages.
Frja is a very egalitarian belief system that mostly emphasizes the rights of the individual to live a life without discrimination. Unfortunately, it’s only a couple of decades in the making and does not receive any widespread acknowledgment. In spite of its youth, however, small villages and communities adhering to Frjaian beliefs have begun to spring up all over the map, providing a safe refuge for outcasts of any species. Needless to say, interspecies mingling is very common in Frjaian communities, which has lead to contemporary society scorning its adherents.
Frjaian villages tend to be very laid-back, if isolated from the outside world. While they admit anyone who would like to join them, Frjaians don’t make many attempts to change society at large, believing that attempting any legal battles with an incredibly bigoted and biased peoples will lead to naught. Instead, they think that the promises of equality and good living offered by Frja will persuade people to join their order, and that they will eventually absorb a significant part of the population. Until then, they remain within the (magical) barriers of their townsteads and allow visitors to find them.
As their values system suggests, Frjaian society is very relaxed. Due to the very varied rates of development of Frjaian villages, each one tends to function slightly differently; however, the most popular systems of governance include an elected leader with a council, a council with no single leader, and sometimes even no governance at all. Aside from the typical laws regarding murder and theft, there are very few regulations, and more minor infractions tend to be dealt with interpersonally. Due to this lack of directives, things that are typically frowned upon or even illegal elsewhere (such as some types of drugs and booze) are mostly legal in Frjaian villages.
The villages are usually self-sufficient, and have, since they first began appearing twenty years ago, developed a rather unique culture of sorts. These flexible communities are strong advocates of free love and unregulated use of alcohol and drugs; due to this, certain buildings are often shrouded in a smoky, herbal-scented haze. No one is even quite sure what type of drugs are in use anymore, as Frjaians began concocting their own herb-based blends a while ago. The same goes for alcohol, and one of the most popular Frjaian drinks is the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster—people who’ve had a taste say it’s rather like getting your brain smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick.
