Location: practiced in mainly Uttara and Ionad, and some rural villages scattered throughout. Following in Dwyrain somewhat. Churches and cathedrals are built. Originated in Dwyrain region and slowly spread.
Irydiu is the name of the belief system in which they believe in one major deity, Iry. Iry had apparently given HetaWorld a breath of life and through that one breath made the world you see the way it was, or so they claim. They do not claim that this deity created HetaWorld, maintaining that HetaWorld was just always there. A plane or canvas on which deities had walked. Irydiu is not a monotheistic religion, as there is a belief that two other deities had graced the land, representing war and peace. Anatar is the deity of peace who graced the land with music and the arts and the meaning of love. Namareos is the deity of war who had shown the land how to protect itself, supplying weapons and a degree of science. It is argued that Namareos represents evil and Anatar represents good, but it really is just a matter of light and dark.
Irydiu can be called that one tight-sewn religion that had quite a bit of influence. There is a whole book devoted to what the Irydiuns believe and how a proper believer should act. They have had enough influence to persecute magic. There are only priestesses in this religion, no priests. No priestess may have any non-human blood running through them or any magic except healing magic. Healing magic is the only magic an Irydiun believes in. Healing magic was claimed to be what Irydiu’s breath of life contained to spring forth life and it is the magic that Anatar bestowed. Any other magic is either turned a blind eye at or claimed to be something that Demons had bestowed on HetaWorld. Because of their belief in all magic but healing magic as evil, there was once a Great Purge with the attempted immolation of magical beings and half-breeds which did lead to something messy. At the moment, Irydiuns aren’t as radical, but the sentiment remains.
Irydiun villages are devout and the believers will go to their mass on Fridays, which is the day they believe HetaWorld was defined. There is at least one church or cathedral in an Iryidun town. The village well is blessed every Friday. Irydiu is known to be something present in some of the major cities, though because of the proactive movements and trying to stay tolerant to people, as there is a big population of other belief system believers out there, and they don’t want to divide up cities, they aren’t as strict about going to mass on Fridays. They have been known to get into the messy business of politics “unintentionally”. Mostly when it has to do with magic.
Basically a notable force in HetaWorld, one that was great in times before when the first monarchs of Uttara appeared, but now having to contend with the strength of corruption in politics and such, and wishing to maintain “purity”, aren’t as impactful as before. Their mark on the way society sees magic is definitely detrimental, but as long as no one is outright burning people in the cities, the serene Iry should be content.
